Volunteer Guidelines

Here at Holy Cross, we truly appreciate our volunteers and love having family help in classrooms, working at lunch, coaching our students, working at events, etc! The more parent volunteers, the better! However, there are requirements for the Diocese that all volunteers must comply with when working or volunteering in a school.

A few years ago, the Diocese went paperless, and now volunteers create an online account on Virtus, input the information, and complete most of the requirements online. Please see the attached directions on how to create your account. You will need to digitally sign or acknowledge the appropriate documents, complete Protecting God's Children training, and submit the Authorization to Conduct a Background Check Form and payment, along with that form, to the school office.

The above must be completed before you can volunteer in the building, go on field trips, act as a coach, or participate in school activities, classroom parties, etc., with students.

Please drop off the background check form and $10 fee in the school office. However, nothing else will need to be turned in to the office, as everything is visible to our admin on the Virtus site. Please let the school office know if you have any questions!

Volunteers who are working within the classroom will be coordinated by the office staff. Please be sure that you have met the proper volunteer guidelines (completion of the Protecting God’s Children program and Illinois Background Check) detailed above before requesting to participate in any school activity. Volunteers must sign in and out at the front office and obtain a volunteer identification lanyard when in the school. All volunteers are expected to be models of Christ at all times and maintain confidentiality regarding students and staff.
